Nigel Spurgeon

Nigel Spurgeon is a Clinical Psychologist and a Director of PsyQuest.  He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. Nigel holds a Master of Psychology Degree (Clinical and Health) from Curtin University of Technology.

I understand that it can be difficult to reach out for assistance when life problems become overwhelming, especially when they are long held and complex. I create a warm and confidential environment in which you can explore what has led to your concerns, and safely work through your challenges.  I approach each person with respect and sensitivity, giving space for you to gain insight and resolve problems.

Your therapy is tailored to your individual needs and preferences. I have a trauma informed approach to therapy and have trained in a wide range of therapeutic methods including Schema Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) neurobiological based psychotherapy, and Emotion Focussed Couple Therapy (EFCT). I am a fully accredited Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor and welcome enquiries from early career psychologists completing their AHPRA requirements.

My 24 years of psychotherapy experience includes ten years in private practice in Albany Western Australia, working for the Health and Justice Departments in WA, and working with complex dual diagnosis patients in the UK.

I established Cambridge Psychology in West Leederville with two colleagues in 2017. As well as my private practice work, I have facilitated psychotherapy groups at Abbotsford Private Hospital in the intensive and inpatient programs.

I work with a range of issues including:

  • Addictions such as alcohol, drug, gambling, sex.
  • Family members struggling with a partner or family member who has an addiction.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): both early life and adult trauma
  • Anxiety and depression (e.g., Generalised anxiety, OCD, social phobia)
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Work and stress related problems (e.g., bullying)
  • Grief and Loss
  • Sexual relationship issues
  • Complex dual diagnoses (e.g., personality disorder with addiction)
